Police Plan Sobriety Checkpoint

On the night of Saturday, September 12, and early morning hours of Sunday, September 13, police plan to conduct a sobriety checkpoint in seeking to take intoxicated motorists off the road.

Police did not disclose the location of the checkpoint.

All motorists driving in both directions will be stopped at the checkpoint and briefly interviewed to detect those who are under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

Motorists determined to be intoxicated will be arrested and booked on charges at the police station. They would then be released on bail for ensuing arraignments on the charges before a judge at Danbury Superior Court.

Police conduct the checkpoints to reduce the number of alcohol/drug-related motor vehicle accidents, injuries and fatalities.

Police often press various other charges and issue warnings against motorists after discovering those offenses at a checkpoint.

Grant funds provided by the Federal Highway Safety Program cover 75 percent of the police overtime costs stemming from sobriety checkpoints.
