New Season For Local Photography Club Begins September 17
Flagpole Photographers will begin its 24th season on Thursday, September 17, with an open meeting at 7:30 pm in C.H. Booth libraryâs  conference room.
The September competition subject for members is âNatureâ and prints up to 16 by 20 inches in color or black and white will be judged by three outside photographers. The hand of man cannot be visible in the photograph or it will be disqualified. Winning photos will be entered in the New England Camera Club Councilâs fall competition for Nature.
This season the club will revise its competitions to include a Black and White Open category each month, replacing the âdigitally enhancedâ competition of the past two years. This change will allow the club to more fully participate in New England Camera Club Councilâs fall, winter and summer competitions.
New bylaws that reflect this change have been distributed to the members via email and the vote to formally adopt them will be taken at the September meeting. The revisions are also posted  on the clubâs website, FlagpolePhotographers.com.
In addition to the competition, a slide program of the previous yearâs monthly winners will be shown during the September 17 meeting. There will also will be an additional slide show of the photo shoot several members participated in at a Wolf  kennel in Westchester county last spring.  Set to music, both programs have been created by Donna White.
Other competition categories for upcoming months will include âBest of Summer,â October; Â âShadows,â November; âSelf Portrait,â January; âSigns,â February; âC.H. Booth Library,â March; âNautical,â April; âCity or Town Skyline,â May; and âPeople/Emotions,â June.
The club does not host a competition in December, and in April the club will have its annual exhibit at the library.
Anne Eigen will serve the club as president this season with Don Brooks as a backup. Additional officers include Donna White, vice president; Rui DeSousa, secretary/treasurer; Jim Talarino, program chairman; and Bob Berthier will secure judges for the competitions.
Rick Tyrseck will continue as the clubâs representative to New England Camera Club Council, selecting prints for competition and informing members of NECCC activities and annual conference. Benay Yaffe will edit the monthly newsletter which will be posted on the website, managed by Tom Coryat.
The club eagerly encourages guests and prospective new members to attend the September meeting. Annual dues are $20 which fund certain club activities and provide for an annual donation to the library. The clubâs website has complete information or call 426-2316 for additional details.
