Main Street Crash

Police report a two-vehicle collision on Main Street, near its intersection with East Street, about 1:20 pm on August 31.

Motorist Patricia Barbosa, 39, of Danbury, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord sedan northward,  stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Honda was struck from behind by northbound motorist Jacob Schneider, 19, of New Milford, who was driving a 2006 GMC K-3500 pickup truck, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Schneider a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Police said they issued Barbosa an infraction for driving without a license.

Dodge Vs Honda

Motorist Christopher Thornley, 40, of Monroe was driving a 1999 Dodge Stratus sedan westward on Church Hill Road and following behind a westbound a 2003 Honda CRV driven by Maryann Chan, 57, of Danbury at about 10:13 am September 1, police said.

As the Honda attempted to make a right turn into a driveway at 15 Church Hill Road, the Dodge attempted to pass the Honda on the right, resulting in a collision, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Thornley an infraction for passing on the right.

Two Sedans

Motorist Donna Carraglio, 47, of Hamden, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla sedan northward on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Great Ring Road, about 9 am September 2, stopped for traffic conditions, police report.

Northbound motorist Carol Held, 35, of Danbury, who was driving a 1993 Saturn S-2 sedan, then struck the Toyota from behind, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps staffers transported Carraglio to Danbury Hospital to be checked for a pain complaint, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the accident. Police issued Held an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Warrant

Police said they arrested Quentin Ham, 21, of 5 Birch Rise Drive on a warrant on September 2, charging him with failure to respond to an infraction, stemming from an original charge of littering which was lodged on March 18.

The littering charge carries a $219 fine. Police said they released Ham from custody on $219 bail for a September 16 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Fairfield Hills

Police report that sometime between 9:45 pm on September 2 and 9:40 am on September 3, someone removed a plywood panel from the rear section of Kent House at Fairfield Hills, damaging that plywood. Police categorized the incident as a case of third-degree criminal mischief. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 426-5841.

Church Hill Collision

A two-vehicle collision occurred on eastbound Church Hill Road near the Blue Colony Diner at about 6 pm September 3, police report.

Motorist William Lavery, Jr, 71, of 3 Franklin Court, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala sedan, was waiting for traffic, as tractor-trailer truck driver Larry Christopherson, 63, of Quitman, Ark., who was driving a 2008 Peterbilt, was waiting for traffic behind the Chevrolet, police said.

Police said Christopherson told them that he let his foot off the brake pedal and the truck rolled forward into the rear end of the sedan. There were no injuries. Police issued Christopherson a written warning for failure to drive  reasonable distance apart.

Intersection Crash

About 4:40 pm September 4, motorist Jenna Bavosa, 19, of 22 Turkey Hill Road was driving a 1994 Toyota Corolla sedan westward on Wasserman Way and then stopped in preparing to make a left turn onto Nunnawauk Road, police said.

Motorist Marie Rama, 65, of Bristol, who was driving a 2005 Saturn Ion sedan westward on Wasserman Way, then attempted to pass the Toyota on the right, but the Saturn collided with the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Rama a written warning for passing on the right.

Honda Vs Toyota

Motorist Robert Coleman, 47, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan eastward on Sugar Street about 2:19 pm September 3, stopped at Sugar Street’s intersection with Main Street, police said.

Motorist Deborah Hoffman, 54, of 36 Rock Ridge Road, who was driving a 2007 Honda CRV eastward on Sugar Street, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police issued Hoffman a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

BMW Hits Pothole

Police report that at about 5:36 pm on September 1, motorist Paul G. Arneth, 45, of 3 Settlers Lane was driving a 2006 BMW 3-series sedan eastward on Swamp Road, when he encountered a pothole in the road that he could not avoid, resulting in the auto hitting the pothole causing damage to its right/front tire. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement. Town workers repaired the damaged road, police said.

Pontiac Hits Rocks

Motorist Jacqueline Harris-Craig, 38, of Bethel was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix sedan westward on Great Hill Road and then stopped at its intersection with Taunton Hill Road late about 6:17 pm September 2, police said.

Harris-Craig then proceeded straight through the four-way intersection to reach Plumtrees Road, but was temporarily blinded by strong sunshine and struck several rocks along the westbound road shoulder of Plumtrees Road, police said.

Neither Harris-Craig nor her passengers were injured, police said. Police gave Harris-Craig a written warning for making a restricted turn.

I-84 DUI

State police said motorist Daniel Abely, 39, of Bethlehem, who was driving westward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, about 10:49 pm on September 4, was traveling in the left lane of three lanes and then changed lanes without signaling, after which he was spotted driving over the right road shoulder line.

State police said they stopped Abely to investigate, after which they charged him with driving under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane.

After processing, state police released Abely on $500 bail for a September 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Highway Stop

State police said they stopped motorist Jeneen Mackins, 36, of Waterbury for driving 80 miles per hour in a 65-mph zone on eastbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 11, late on the night of September 1.

State police said they then learned that West Hartford police held an arrest warrant for Mackins on a charge of sixth-degree larceny, after which they turned over Mackins to West Hartford police. Mackins was scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on September 2.

Highway MVA

State police report that motorist Deborah Secola, 58, of 3 Elizabeth Street, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 1:54 am September 2, fell asleep while driving in the right lane, after which the vehicle drifted onto the median and struck some guardrailing.

Secola was not injured, state police said. State police issued her a written warning for failure to maintain the established lane.

Noise Enforcement

Police said they conducted a traffic noise enforcement program on Glen Road, near its intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road, on the afternoons of September 3 and 4.

In that project, police observed 27 motorcyclists, two of whom were found to be in violation of state regulations for having altered their motorcycles’ mufflers to increase exhaust noise, according to police.

Police said they issued written warnings to the two motorcyclists, requiring them to resolve the exhaust noise problems before using the motorcycles again.

Three Charges

About 9 pm on September 8, Newtown police, aided by Bethel police, served an arrest warrant at a home in Bethel against a 17-year-old male in connection with a June 2008 crime at a Country Squire Road home in Sandy Hook.

 Police said they charged the youth with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny, and third-degree criminal mischief.

In June 2008, the youth allegedly broke into the Country Squire Road home and stole items including a laptop computer, diamond ring, and a collection of pens, police said. The value of the items stolen exceeded $2,500, according to police.

Following arrest processing, police held the youth on $50,000 bail for a September 9 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court. Because the youth is under age 18, state law shields his identity from public disclosure.

Assault

 Police said they responded to Hot Shots Grille, Restaurant, and Tap Room at 130 Mt Pleasant Road about 12:16 am on September 9 after receiving a report that an assault had occurred there.

Police said they arrested Anderson Silva, 30, of Danbury on charges of third-degree assault and breach of peace in the incident, which resulted in minor injuries to a male victim.

After posting $100 bail, police released Silva for arraignment on the charges September 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

Vehicular Violations

Police said that at about 2:30 am on September 6, they spotted motorist Luana Tamagnone, 21, of Danbury driving westward on Church Hill Road, near its intersection with The Boulevard, with an unlit rear marker plate.

Police stopped the vehicle and investigated, after which they charged Tamagnone with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate and with driving with a suspended license. Tamagnone posted $100 bail for a September 22 court appearance.

Alcohol Charges

Police report that while they were working on underage alcohol enforcement duty about 8 pm September 4, they spotted Anthony Whitlock, 22, of Southbury leaving a South Main Street package store with a package of what was later learned to be beer.

Police said that Whitlock then delivered that package of beer to two minors who they later stopped for a motor vehicle violation.

Police said they charged Whitlock with delivery of alcohol to minors. Police released Whitlock on a written promise to appear in court on September 18.

 Also, police charged two people with illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. They are Timothy Shepard, 20, of 1 Glover Avenue, and Kaitlin Freeman, 18, of 4 Farm Field Ridge Road.

Sandy Hook Center

Police report a motor vehicle accident on eastbound Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center in which two adjacent vehicles made contact about 4:44 pm September 8.

The motorists involved in the accident were Roy Low, 46, of 56 Riverside Road, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Lumina minivan, and motorist Barbara Jones-Bouton, 47, of 14 Deerfield Drive, who was driving a 1999 Jeep Wrangler SUV, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Alcohol

About 6 pm September 4, police received a report that beer cans were being thrown out from a vehicle in the Queen Street area, so they investigated the complaint.

Police said that on finding that vehicle, they investigated. Police said they determined that Quentin Ham, 21, of 5 Birch Rise Drive was a backseat passenger in that vehicle and had been throwing the beer cans out of the vehicle. Police said they issued Ham an infraction for littering.

Police said that a 17-year-old male was driving the vehicle. Police charged that youth with possession of alcohol by a minor and with violating passenger restrictions on drivers under age 18.

Because the person charged is under age 18, his identity is shielded from disclosure by state law. Police said the incident was handled by their underage alcohol enforcement unit.

Probation Violations

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Justin Gaynor, 22, of 41 Goodyear Road turned himself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of September 8, and was charged with two counts of violation of probation, police said. Details on the case were not available.

Police said they held Gaynor on $40,000 bail for a September 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

MV Violations

About 5:12 pm September 9, police stopped motorist Andrew Malik, 39, of West Haven for not having a front marker plate on his vehicle while traveling on Mt Pleasant Road near The Old Road.

After investigating, police charged Malik with failure to have a front marker plate, driving with a suspended license, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police released Malik on a written promise to appear September 23 in Danbury Superior Court.

SUV Vs Bird

While traveling on Mt Pleasant Road, near Violette Road, about 4:14 pm September 8, motorist Michele Fulton, 39, of Redding, who was driving a 2007 Toyota Highlander SUV, collided with a long-legged bird known as a crane, police said.

The bird died on impact. Neither Fulton, nor a child passenger, were injured, police said. Police took no enforcement action.

Car Off Road

About 6:07 pm on September 1, motorist Pamela Machado, 64, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala westward on Great Hill Road, stopped at that street’s four-way intersection with Taunton Hill Road and Plumtrees Road, police said.

Machado then headed toward Plumtrees Road, but was blinded by strong sunshine and the Chevrolet drove off the side of Taunton Hill Road, striking a stone wall, police said.

Machado was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for making a restricted turn.

South Main Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road on September 8, according to police.

The collision involved motorist Inna Fedorov, 62, of 43 High Rock Road, who was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion sedan northward on South Main Street and was attempting to make a left turn onto westbound Country Club Road, and motorist Carolyn Thanasoulis, 47, of 6 Wendover Road, who was driving a 2001 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward on South Main Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Fedorov a written warning for making a restricted turn. Police issued Thanasoulis a written warning for failure to carry a driver's license.
