‘Collage Art’ At Roxbury Library

ROXBURY — An exhibit of brilliantly colored collages by Rita Valley and Peter Wooster will open with a reception at Minor Memorial Library, on Saturday, September 12, from 2 to 4 pm. The show will continue during regular library hours through Monday, October 19.

Ms Valley is a Bridgewater artist who creates collages and witty, often humorous, artist’s books as a means to “order the universe.” Known for looking at subjects as diverse as birth, death and America’s infatuation with the automobile, she has exhibited at the Aldrich Museum in Ridgefield, Silvermine Guild Gallery in New Canaan and elsewhere throughout the Northeast.]

Her pieces are in the collections of Stanford University, Yale University and many other colleges and universities across the country.

Mr Wooster is well-known for his work as a designer of restaurants, including Orso in New York. He has designed and renovated homes for James Taylor, Stephen Sondheim and others.  A talented landscape designer, he created the Seasonal Walk for the New York Botanical Garden as well as the stunning garden at his residence in Roxbury.

After a disabling stroke in 2006, Mr Wooster turned his artistic focus to small collages, utilizing graphics, photographs and painting. He creates each collage from a single issue of a magazine. “Collage Art” is the first showing of his new work.

Minor Memorial Library is open Mondays and Thursdays from noon to 7 pm, Wednesdays from 10 am to 7 pm, Fridays from 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm. It is at 23 South Street and the building is handicapped accessible. Call 860-350-2181 for information and directions.
