'Uglier In Newtown?'
âUglier In Newtown?â
To the Editor:
It appears that âNicer in Newtownâ is giving way to âUglier in Newtown.â
The erection of poles on the Fairfield Hills property and the cutting of the trees in order to run power lines to the 5/6 School is certainly not in keeping with what I have read in The Bee over the past three years. The people of Newtown want to maintain the beauty of property, not see it desecrated. If the utilities could be installed underground in the 1920s when the original buildings were constructed and again when the jail was built in the 80s, why canât they be placed underground today? Certainly there must be funds available in the $48.87 million recently voted on for the school and Fairfield Hills to include underground utilities.
I urge that the construction be halted and the utilities be placed underground, even if the poles are only âtemporary.â
