Resignation Is A Blow

To The Community

To the Editor:

It is truly with a heavy heart I am writing this letter. The resignation of Pierre Rochman from the Legislative Council, in my opinion, is a blow to the community he tried so long and hard to serve.

Pierre is one of the most open-minded, caring, fair people I have ever known. He always gave everyone their due time and space on the Legislative Council. Pierre fought valiantly for the Fairfield Hills property and felt strongly a master plan is needed to know what is going to happen there. His expressed feelings regarding the Charter Revision Commission recommendations were probably not popular with many; however, I give him credit for thinking towards the future and what could happen should such sweeping changes be implemented. He never at any time tried to thwart the revisions being brought to the voters. He did try to say “take your time, think it over, and see where the errors might lead us.” To me, that is good planning. I can give so many other examples of his concern and apolitical actions on behalf of our community.

For this volunteer of many years, a gentleman and a fighter on our behalf, to be so belittled in the press and by public in attendance at the Legislative Council meetings, is an absolute travesty. To be present at these meetings and watch this happening is an incredible sight. No wonder we hear the words “it will be hard to get volunteers” because of “this” or “that.” But we do hear them mostly from individuals who criticize or have personal agendas – and who do not volunteer themselves.

My only question of Pierre at this time is “how could you have done this so long” with the lack of appreciation and support from those around you? Pierre, my gratitude and admiration for you and your understanding and patience, coupled with the thousands of hours you devoted to this town, is beyond expression.

All I can say is Thank You For All Your Efforts And Time, and all best wishes to you for whatever you choose to do in the future.

Thank you and God Speed.
