Open House At Danbury Hospital’s Family Birth Center

DANBURY — The Family Birth Center at Danbury Hospital cordially invites the community to an open house to launch its Alternative Birth Experience (ABE) room on Wednesday, September 15 from 2 to 4 pm.

The event will be held in the Family Birth Center on the third floor of the Stroock building with convenient parking available in the Red Garage on Locust Avenue. No RSVP is required. Refreshments will be provided.

According to Howard Blanchette, MD, chairman of obstetrics and gynecology, the ABE room offers a unique homelike bedroom setting within the hospital for women who prefer a natural environment for labor and delivery.

“We provide a level of care and concern found only among the most highly experienced teams of physicians, nurses, and other support staff. We are committed to making the birthing experience as safe and special as it can be for women and their entire families,” Dr Blanchette said.

In addition to the ABE room, the Family Birth Center at Danbury Hospital provides maximum privacy, peace, and comfort with 25 separate maternity rooms. All labor rooms include individual whirlpool tubs to promote relaxation and comfort throughout the labor process.

The unit’s nurses are highly trained and experienced in all aspects of maternal and child health, including certification in obstetrics and breastfeeding support.

The birth center also has a nationally recognized Doula Program that enhances childbirth by offering added comfort and personal attention. Doulas are support people who provide nonclinical assistance to ease pain and encourage women throughout the labor process.

Additionally, the Danbury Hospital team includes recognized leaders in neonatal medicine for the care of premature babies in its Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and more than 80 board-certified pediatricians and family practice physicians who deliver outstanding community-based primary and specialty care to give babies a healthy start.
