Fairfield Hills And Safety
Fairfield Hills And Safety
To the Editor:
I work in Newtown and for the last year or so I have been spending my lunch hour walking in Fairfield Hills, sometimes with my dog sometimes without. At first I was cautious, finding the empty buildings spooky, but there are usually mothers strolling their babies, other dog walkers, and two pleasant security guards patrolling the grounds every 20 minutes or so, I began to feel comfortable.
Then on Friday, August 27, at about 2 pm, I was returning from my usual 35-minute walk, to find my carâs driverâs side window smashed in and my purse gone. I reported this to the local police and the officer I spoke to was very kind, as was the security guard on duty. What concerns me is that Iâve been watching the local papers, and although I was not anxious to have my name in the paper, I do think other people should be aware of what happened to me, yet there has been no mention of this incident. Is this because this is commonplace? Or is it because the town doesnât want people to know that Fairfield Hills is not a safe place?
If I do go back to walking at Fairfield Hills I will park near the one building the town uses and I will leave my purse at work. I donât want anyone else to have to go through the expense and aggravation I did.
Sincerely,
Jeanne Sheridan
