Audubon Sponsors Fall

Migration Walk

On Saturday, September 18, there will be a Fall Migration Bird Walk at the Bent of the River Audubon Center on East Flat Hill Road in South Britain, just off Route 172 at Exit 14. Meet at the kiosk nearby the Audubon Center entrance and parking area.

The walk will take place at 8 am and will last two and half hours. It will be led by birding expert Carolyn Longstreth, vice president of the Lillinonah Audubon Society.

Fall migration is in full swing and September is the best time to get out in the field and look for mixed flocks of foraging migrants as they load up for long flights. Walkers will be following the river trail and will stop at the feeder stations and in the cedar fields, looking to spot and identify both familiar and unusual bird species passing through.

Bring binoculars if desired and drinking water. Beginning birders are welcome. There is no charge and the public is invited.

Call Carolyn at 264-9502 to confirm. The event will be cancelled in case of heavy rain.
