Benjamin A. Palagonia

Benjamin A. Palagonia, 88, of Sherman died September 2 in New Milford Hospital. He was born March 30, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a son of the late Giroloma (Buscemi) and Joseph Palagonia.

Besides his wife, Barbara, of Sherman, his daughters Mary Eddy, and her husband David, of Newtown and Kathy Palagonia of Sherman; his sons and wives Joseph and Ginger of Bradford, Penn., Peter and Jeanne of Naugatuck, John and Amy of Brookfield, and son Fred of Sherman; two sisters, Virginia Orlowsky of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Margarita Tucholski of Brick, N.J.; and grandchildren Ben, Nina, Teddy, and Chloe survive Mr Palagonia.

He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II then married Barbara Orlowsky in St Agatha’s Church in Brooklyn, January 20, 1952. They moved to Sherman in 1976, where Mr Palagonia worked as an artist. He designed the seals for the Town of Sherman, the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department, and Veterans Association.

Mr Palagonia was a life member of the Sherman Volunteer Fire Department, a 4th degree member of the Housatonic K of C Council #40, and a 30-year member of the Society of Interior Designers.

Mr Palagonia had also worked for renowned architects Ludwig Mies van der Rohe  and Philip Johnson in New York.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 10, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Sherman, at 10 am. Internment will follow in the Coburn Cemetery in Sherman.
