To the Editor:

A 90th year celebration is always going to be a special event. This was especially true sharing our first ever Wine Tasting with friends, family and supporters of the Newtown Forest Association, Connecticut’s oldest land trust... Our event was held at sunset this past Saturday at our Holcombe Hill Nature Preserve headquarters and it was a smashing success. Amidst the meadows of the highest point in Newtown, our guests were treated to a rain shower, a sunset, and even a thunder and lightning show. All the hard work and planning paid off as our guests were treated to fine wines wonderful food, a silent auction, art show, and some smooth jazz  all supplied from local Newtown businesses and residents..

The response to this event was a very pleasant surprise and we would like to plan on making this an annual event. Our friends at Yankee Wines and Liquor provided just the right mix of wines to go with the tasty delights provide by Pam from Aquarian Caterers.

The WVR jazz trio provided the perfect sonic backdrop for what turned out to be an exceptional of day spent with long time supporters on the NFA and new ones as well.

We want to thank all our volunteers, friends, and neighbors who pitched in to make this such a special event including the generous support of sponsors and donors that included: Aquarion Water Company, Associated Refuse, Bartlett Tree Company, Hollandia Nursery, Red Baron Carpet and WPKN Radio 89.5

We thank you all for your support. We are fortunate to have preserved open space parcels all over Newtown and we do consider everyone in our community to be our neighbors.

Hope to see you all outside again soon.

Warm and sunny regards,

Bob Eckenrode

President Newtown Forest Association
