Police this week arrested a current prison inmate on a warrant, charging him with robbery and larceny in connection with an incident that occurred 19 years ago at a gas station at 62 Church Hill Road.

Police said they arrested Timothy Brelsford, 52, formerly of Bridgeport, on September 3 on a warrant charging him with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree larceny stemming from a Saturday, August 13, 1994, incident at what was then known as Trudeau’s Amoco.

Brelsford did not plead to the charges at his arraignment in Danbury Superior Court. He is scheduled to return to court on October 10 to enter pleas.

Brelsford has been held as an inmate in the state Department of Correction (DOC) prison system since September 19, 1994. The controlling criminal charge against him is second-degree kidnapping with a firearm. The maximum prison release date on his current 46-year sentence is in May 2032. Brelsford was sentenced in November 1995.

Police said that the court issued a warrant against Brelsford in December 1994, in connection with  the armed robbery at the gas station in August of that year. Realizing that Brelsford was then incarcerated, police lodged that warrant with the DOC in 1995.

According to a report in the August 19, 1994, edition of The Newtown Bee, police received an E-911 call about 10:30 pm on August 13, 1994, from the attendant at the gas station informing them that an armed robbery had occurred there. The attendant described the assailant as a man in his late 20s or early 30s.

The attendant told police that the robber had displayed a handgun and ordered that the cash drawer be opened. The robber then emptied the cash drawer of money, took the cash, and fled the premises, getting into a vehicle THAT was then driven away by another person. At that time, police said the theft involved more than $500 of cash.

Brelsford is being held prisoner at the state’s MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution in Suffield.
