Candlewood Amateur Radio Association will present its annual Western Connecticut Hamfest on Sunday, September 11, from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm. The event will again be in the gymnasium and lower parking lot of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown.
Admission is $6, free for ages 10 and under.
The Hamfest will include commercial vendors (including but not limited to KJI Electronics, Quiksilver Radio Products, Radio Oasis, Sauder Electronics) and The Parent Shop, and tailgating, ham radio equipment and computer gear, door prizes, and refreshments. This yearâs raffle prize is a new Yaesu FT1900R 2m, 55W mobile rig. Raffle tickets remain $5.
Door prizes will be awarded during the day.
Steve Simons (W1SMS), who has a lot of experience in proper grounding practices designed to keep your station safe, will be presenting a seminar on âStation Grounding And Lightning Safety,â and Bill Thoren (N1TIW), who has spent time researching the life of Samuel Morse and how he developed the Morse code, will offer a seminar on just that subject. Mr Thorenâs presentation will include a demonstration of Morseâs original sender and receiver.
Tailgating is $10, which includes one admission; indoor table space, if available, is $15, which also includes one admission. Set up will begin at 7:30 am.
While approaching the event or for those who cannot attend, a talk-in will be running on the CARA W1QI Repeater, 147.300(+) PL 100.0.
Hamfest will run rain or shine. Edmond Town Hall is fully handicapped accessible.
