Berkshire Accident

An accident involving two SUVs and a pickup truck occurred about 3:35 pm on September 6 on eastbound Berkshire Road, west of its intersection with Toddy Hill Road.

Police said that due to wet pavement, motorist Melissa Nadeau, 31, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was unable to stop and struck the rear end of a 2011 Honda Ridgeline pickup truck driven by Richard C. Hay, Jr, 61, of Monroe. That impact pushed the Honda into the rear end of a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner driven by Stacey Greenberg, 44, of 2 Fir Tree Lane, police said,

Before the accident occurred, the Toyota and the Honda had been slowing due to traffic conditions, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Nadeau a written warning for traveling unreasonably fast for conditions.

Restricted Turn, Distracted Driving

Motorist Robert Daigle, 17, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward near 115 Taunton Hill Road about 11 pm on August 25, veered to the right and struck a tree along the road shoulder, police said.

Daigle was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn and for distracted driving.

Church Hill Failure

About 3:45 pm on August 27, motorist David Sage, 66, of Tampa, Fla., was driving a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze sedan in the left-turn-only lane westward on Church Hill Road and approaching its intersection with Queen Street, as motorist Joan Calabrese, 74, of Woodbury was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu sedan in the westbound straight-through lane there, police said.

The Cruze then changed lanes and cut off the Malibu, causing the Malibu to move to the right and strike some curbing, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Sage an infraction for failure to drive in the proper lane.

SUV vs Sedan

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive about 2:11 pm on August 25.

Motorist Jon Kazmercyk, 20, of 5 Pomperaug Road, who was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid westward on Sugar Street, stopped and was waiting to turn left onto southbound Elm Drive, when he was struck from behind by westbound motorist Jerry E. Peterson, Jr, 52, of 2 Elizabeth Street, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Wrangler, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Peterson for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Intersection Crash

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Main Street and Church Hill Road about 10:32 am on August 18.

Motorist Abdelrahim Ibrahim, 20, of Putnam Valley, N.Y., who was driving a 2011 Ford F-250 van westward on Church Hill Road, stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Main Street, and then continued into the intersection where the Ford collided with a 2005 BMW 325-XI sedan driven by Maria Kaiser, 30, of Easton, police said.

There were no injuries. Ibrahim received a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign, according to police.

Traffic Conditions

Eastbound motorist James Russo, 51, of 5 Osborn Hill Road was driving a 2006 Mazda 3 sedan near 17 Berkshire Road about 2 pm on August 27, when he stopped suddenly for traffic conditions and was struck from behind by motorist Matthew Sorena, 21, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2007 Volkswagen Rabbit, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Sorena a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Vehicle Vandalism

Overnight between Thursday, September 1, and Friday, September 2, someone intentionally damaged a door and a window on an unspecified motor vehicle parked in a driveway on Dodgingtown Road (Route 302) in Dodgingtown Center, police said. Anyone with information on the property damage is asked to contact Officer Maryhelen McCarthy at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Chrysler vs BMW

Police said that motorist Angeline Zakhar, 91, of Nunnawauk Meadows was driving a 1996 Chrysler Concorde sedan northward on Nunnawauk Road about 8 am on August 31 behind a northbound 2002 BMW X-5 SUV driven by Ramon Gordils, Jr, 32, of Meriden.

Both vehicles were slowing as they approached a stop sign on Nunnawauk Road that is posted at its intersection with Wasserman Way, police said.

Zakhar’s foot slipped off the Chrysler’s brake pedal and the Chrysler then struck the rear end of BMW, police said.

There were no injuries. Zakhar received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Burglary Interrupted

Police said they responded to a residence on Waterview Drive about 11:23 pm on August 28 on a report of a burglary in progress. The unidentified suspect in the crime was last seen walking on Waterview Drive, police said. Waterview Drive overlooks Lake Zoar in the Riverside section. Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Multiple Charges

Police said they stopped motorist James Fino, 29, of Monroe near the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Tinkerfield Road about 1 pm September 3 for an alleged nearby traffic signal violation.

Police said they investigated and charged Fino with violating a traffic signal, failure to wear a seatbelt, driving with a suspended license, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two drug possession violations.

After processing his arrest, police released Fino on $2,000 bail for a September 20 court appearance.

DUI Arrest

Police report they stopped motorist Jeanne Abric, 52, of 87 Berkshire Road on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Wasserman Way about 11:17 pm September 2, after spotting that the vehicle that she was driving had a nonfunctional headlamp.

After investigating, police said they charged Abric with driving under the influence, risk of injury to a minor, and with a headlamp violation.

Police said the risk of injury charge stems from Abric having a 12-year-old passenger in the vehicle.

Abric was released on $100 bail for a September 16 court appearance, police said.

Jeep Vs Nissan

Police report a two-vehicle accident on a congested section of Church Hill Road.

Motorist Sandra Curato, 67, of Portland, Maine, was driving a 2011 Jeep Compass westward on Church Hill Road and was attempting to make a left turn into the Blue Colony Diner parking lot at about 12:23 pm September 1, as motorist Jennifer Dominque, 24, of Elizabeth, N.J., was driving a 1997 Nissan Maxima sedan in the eastbound right-turn-only lane, police said.

At that time, the driver of a noncontact vehicle stopped in the eastbound straight-through lane to allow the Jeep to make the left turn, but as the Jeep turned, it collided with the Nissan, police said.

There were no injuries. Curato received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police report.

Rear-Ender

At about 9:33 am on September 1, motorist Michelle Tomassi Steeves, 32, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta westward near 65 Church Hill Road, stopped at a red traffic signal, after which the sedan was struck from behind by a westbound 2003 Chevrolet 1500 pickup truck driven by Gerard Stedner, 77, of Stratford, police said.

Stedner received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police report.

Three-Vehicle Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred near 66 Church Hill Road about 3:12 pm August 29, police said. All three vehicles were headed eastward.

Police said motorist Amelia Shwartz, 24, of 52 Flat Swamp Road, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy station wagon, struck the rear end of a 2009 Toyota Yaris hatchback driven by Brian Kean, 54, of 137 Poverty Hollow Road, pushing the Toyota into the rear end of a 2006 Subaru Legacy sedan driven by Joseph Porco, 49, of 12 Saddle Ridge Road.

Police said that Toyota passengers Tracy Kean, 49, and Katelyn Kean, 16, received injuries in the accident. Police said they issued Shwartz an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Chipmunk Trail Burglary

Police report that sometime between 7 am and 3:45 pm on September 6, a burglary occurred at a house on Chipmunk Trail in Sandy Hook. Police are investigating the crime and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact the police detective unit at 203-426-5841.

DUI Case

Police said that while on patrol at about 1 am on September 5, they spotted motorist Timothy O’Connell, 50, of 15 Webster Place violate a stop sign on Hattertown Road at its intersection with Aunt Park Lane, so they stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged O’Connell with driving under the influence and with failure to obey a stop sign. O’Connell was released on $100 bail for a September 20 court appearance, police said.

South Main Incident

Motorist David W. Simso, Jr, 38, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Ford Mustang northward on South Main Street about 9:07 am on September 6, stopped at a red traffic signal at that street’s intersection with Mile Hill Road, police said.

Northbound motorist Patricia Casillo, 39, of Redding, who was driving a 2007 Volvo XC-70, then rolled forward and struck the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Casillo received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.
