A Sad Day For One Of Newtown's Hallmarks
A Sad Day For One Of
Newtownâs Hallmarks
To the Editor:
It was a very sad day for Newtown when the Board of Education opted to support the desire of Superintendent Robinson to rid our taxpayers of the privilege of having fellow citizens of Newtown drive our children to and from school. Taking the owner-operator system away from our town just destroyed a cherished traditions that made it âNicer in Newtown.â
I do hope that Mrs Robinson does not have an personal issue with the flagpole in the center of town, or the Meeting House, the volunteer fire and ambulance corps, the Labor Day Parade, the Pleasance, the Pancake Breakfast and the Holiday Tour or any of the numerous other hallmarks of our town. If she does, will the BOE support her then too?
I thank every owner-operator that has ever driven me, my children, or other relatives to and from the schools â one that my father helped build. These people deserve our thanks and more â and certainly not this slap in the face. Our family appreciates all the decades of service you have given our town. Thank you.
I guess we should also show our town spirit and welcome all of the strangers that will soon be driving around our town and delivering the children.
Best of luck this fall BOE and Mrs Robinson.
With great sadness,
Susan Osborne White
