WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina – Marcus Tracy has already started making a name for himself with the Wake Forest men’s soccer team.

On August 24, Tracy – along with teammates Cline Beam, Sam Cronin and Jamie Franks – was recognized by College Soccer News as one of the nation’s top 100 impact freshmen players. Wake Forest was one of three schools, along with Duke, Indiana and Maryland, that had at least four players listed.

Tracy was a Parade All-American and Connecticut High School Player of the Year and was ranked as high as 12th nationally last year at Newtown High School as he helped lead the Nighthawks to a South-West Conference and CIAC Class LL championship.

In the Demon Deacons’ first exhibition game, a 1-0 win over Charlotte on August 22, Tracy came off the bench and played significant minutes. In a 2-0 win over Furman on August 27, Tracy scored his first collegiate goal with less than ten minutes remaining in the contest, receiving a long ball down the right side of the box from Andrew Wright to beat the goalie high.

The Demon Deacons (14-5-2 a year ago) head into the season ranked 18th in the nation and opened last Friday against two-time defending national champion Indiana.

The closest the Deacons come to Connecticut is Sunday, October 16, when they travel to Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, to take on Boston College.

Newtown High School has nearly three dozen alumni from the past three graduating classes plying their trade at the collegiate level this year – many of them in the fall.

Dan Cascone and Brennan Coakley have begun their Division I football careers – Cascone at the University of Wisconsin and Coakley at Penn State. Junior Allison Frobey has been named captain of the Plymouth State women’s soccer team and while starting every game over the past two years earned second team All-LEC honors last season.

Ben Tirigall is with the Eastern Connecticut State University  men’s soccer team along with Derek Miles; Nick Mentesana is with the University of Missouri-Rolla men’s soccer team; Ryan Davies is with the St. Joseph University men’s soccer team; Kim Allen is with the Castleton State College women’s soccer team; Carrie Lipnick is with the Loyola-New Orleans women’s soccer team; Ryan Keogler is with the Steubenville men’s soccer team; Chelsea Morin is with the Ursinius College women’s soccer team; Stephanie Logan is with the Quinnipiac University women’s volleyball team; Ross Coates is playing football at Wesleyan University; Tom Ryan is playing football at Worcester Polytechnic Institute; Ryan Tracy is with the University of Pennsylvania men’s soccer team; and Mike Troy is with the Fairfield University men’s soccer team.
