 Plans Sept. 12 Open House

DANBURY — Voice of the Faithful of Greater Danbury, an affiliate of VOTF of Fairfield County, is sponsoring an open house for Catholics who would like to learn more about this community of faithful laity who want to play a stronger role in the decisionmaking of their church.

The meeting will take place at Central Christian Church Hall, 71 West Street, on Monday, September 12, at 7:30 pm.

The Rev Leo McIlrath of Newtown explained that Voice of the Faithful members are loyal representatives of their faith communities who are concerned that the spirit of Vatican II is being set aside by the church hierarchy and that church reform has taken a step backwards.

Three goals have been highlighted by the National Voice of the Faithful representatives: Protecting young people who have been victims of sexual abuse by clergy, that such may never happen again to them or to others; supporting priests of integrity, whatever their canonical status; and calling for a more representative style of church government that would return to the laity a fuller participation in the life of the church, especially in the area of decisionmaking.
