Elects Officers
The annual meeting of the Newtown Visiting Nurse Association was held at The Villa restaurant in Sandy Hook on Tuesday, September 6.
 First Selectman Herb Rosenthal, the honored guest, commended the VNA for its committed and dedicated service to the people of Newtown. The following officers were elected for the upcoming year: Becky Smith, president; Mary Tietjen, vice president; Mae Schmidle, vice president; Margareta Kotch, treasurer; Charleen Swanson, corresponding secretary; Mae Schmidle, parliamentarian.
The board of directors unanimously elected Ginny Berry, Nancy Brady, Luise Calderbank, Jill Collins, Rebeka Dehlgerd, Alice Falkowitz, Pamela Gage, Mona Lauricella, Luella Leitner, Maureen McLachlan, Carole Polcyn, Gloria von Oy, Joan Reynolds, Rita Roman, Pati Seidelf, and Betty Warner as directors.
Maureen McLachlan, Betty Warner, and Luise Calderbank were elected to the nominating committee.
The board discussed designing a new signature and revitalizing the image of the VNA. The annual meeting also deals with the by-laws and an assistant treasurer was added to the list of officers. The board also discussed the need to have policies and procedures for all the activities of the organization.
After a small summer hiatus, the Visiting Nurse Thrift Shop is open once again at the rear of Edmond Town Hall. It is full of new and gently used merchandise for the home, toys for children, and clothing and accessories for men, women, and children.
