Local Resident Wins Rotaryâs Harvey-Davidson Raffle
As the largest Newtown Labor Day Parade came to an end, Newtown Rotary President Paul Lux announced that the winner of the Harvey-Davidson Motorcycle was Mike Phillips of Sandy Hook.
At first when raffle chairman Bill Calderara telephoned him, Mr Phillips he thought it was a joke. When he finally realized it was not, he was thrilled. The winning ticket was drawn by Suzie Osborne White, whose father Jim Osborne was a staunch member of Newtown Rotary for more than 50 years.
Members of Newtown Rotary ran their annual food booth, which this year was dedicated to helping the plight of those whose lives have been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The club bought all the food from its treasury and therefore every bit of the proceeds will go to the people who need it in the Gulf Coast region.
