Fabulous Floral Arrangements
From The Supermarket
You know how it is: youâre running late and all of a sudden you realize you have to create a flower arrangement for your dinner party.
A quick trip to your local supermarketâs flower department could be the answer.
JoAnn Greenwood, a well known landscape designer and master gardener, will be presenting a program sponsored by the Town and Country Garden Club of Newtown at the senior center in Sandy Hook on Wednesday, September 14, at 7:30 pm. The public is invited, free of charge.
Ms Greenwood has presented workshops all over the Northeast. She will be in Sandy Hook to show participants on Wednesday evening how to utilize all those fabulously inexpensive flowers that are offered for sale by various supermarkets.
Not that you shouldnât become friends with your local florist when you want to create something extra special, but Ms Greenwood will encourage her audience to shop carefully at the supermarket in order to take advantage of unusual sales.
Once a customer has purchased flowers, she says, there are endless ways to make them look extraordinary by doing several different arrangements: a regular centerpiece, a wreath, a topiary and hand tied (a European technique) that Ms Greenwood will demonstrate.
JoAnn Greenwood has an extraordinary background as a landscape designer. She has designed and renovated gardens throughout New England and for a special garden in Mexico. She studied at the English Gardening School in London, England, and extensively at New York Botanical Garden from which she received a Certificate in Landscape Design.
She is a Master Gardener, a Connecticut Accredited Nursery Professional, and recently achieved the designation of Landscape Design Consultant from the Federated Garden Club.
