Police arrested two Danbury women on robbery charges, among other offenses, following a violent incident in the parking lot of a local factory on the afternoon of August 31.

Police said they arrested Marta Perez, 36, and Maria Tavarez, 44, each on charges of third-degree robbery, which is a felony. Police also charged each woman with third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief, and second-degree breach of peace.

At about 3:37 pm, police were called to 14 Prospect Drive, the site of Hubbell Plastics, on a report of an assault having occurred there. Police said that on arriving, they met with the female victim of the assault who had received facial scratches in the incident.

Police said the victim told them that two women had been waiting for her in the factory's parking lot and as she was leaving the premises for the day, the women screamed at her, struck her in the face, pulled her hair, and scratched her face. During the incident, her keys were taken from her and her cellphone was smashed, the victim told police.

Some of the victim's co-workers broke up the fight, after which the two female offenders fled the scene in a Honda CR-V SUV, police said.

Police said the victim described the offenders as two of her acquaintances, and provided their addresses to police.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members checked the victim's injuries; she refused transport to the hospital.

Police found Tavarez in Danbury and arrested her at about 6:30 pm. Perez went to the police station voluntarily where she was then arrested, police said.

After arrest processing, police released each woman on $1,500 bail for September 14 arraignments in Danbury Superior Court.
