A Fun Day For Dogs And Humans

Mt Pleasant Hospital for Animals will present Responsible Dog Ownership & Adoption Day.

Pet owners and nonowners alike are invited to the animal hospital, at 119 Mt Pleasant Road (Route 6), for fun, animal-related games and adoption opportunities on Sunday, September 10, from 10 am to 4 pm.

There will be Canine Good Citizen Tests (for a $20 fee) and Home Again Microchipping ($50), along with question and answer opportunities with a Pet Partner Therapy volunteer and grooming demonstrations at 12:30 and 2:30.

Games will also be part of the event, starting with a Hot Dog Catching contest at noon. Additional competitions will include Clean Plate Contest at 12:30, Best Kisser Contest at 1, Doggie Relay at 1:30, and Rover Says at 2.

Local groups  — Canine Advocates of Newtown, The Animal Center, and Greyhound Rescue — will have representatives at the hospital with plenty of information about their efforts in and around Newtown. Carolee Mason, Newtown’s animal control officer, will have Pom-Pom (a Pomeranian who was badly burned recently and cared for at Mt Pleasant Hospital) and any unplaced “Katrina dogs” – a few dogs who arrived in Newtown on August 30 from the Gulf Coast, looking for new homes – with her during the event. The public will be able to meet these animals, and get information about them as well as other dogs still looking for new homes.

Pets are welcome. There will be plenty of free food for humans and canines alike.

Mt Pleasant Hospital for Animals staff invites the community to help support local animal groups and meet some pets that are available for adoption.

The hospital can be reached for additional information by calling 426-8585.
