Roosters Will Host A Public Jamboree
The Rocking Roosters Square Dance Club cordially invites music lovers of all ages to the first Newtown Country Jamboree, featuring several types of live music. This is a first of its kind extravaganza for the club, and maybe for Newtown. It will take place at the Edmond Town Hall gym on Friday, September 29, from 6:30 to 10:30 pm.
Dress is casual but the gymnasium has a newly varnished wood floor so soft sole shoes will be necessary. There is no admission charge, but a freewill donation will be greatly appreciated.
The jamboree is not just for those who square dance. It is for anyone who loves live music and likes to move. There will be opportunity for participants to enjoy the two-step, polkas, contras, waltz, western swing, barn dancing for everyone, plus squares and rounds.
In between dance numbers there will be some pickingâ and fiddlinâ, plus singing songs everyone will be invited to hum along with and enjoy.
Roger Sprung and his band â six to eight excellent musicians â have generously volunteered to be the big band of the evening. Mr Sprung, a Newtown resident, is a world champion banjo player. He teaches banjo and guitar locally as well as in a studio in New York City, and continues to perform regularly.
Several members of the Bristol Old Time Fiddlers will also perform. There will be lots of fine vocalists and there is always the possibility of an open mike.
Refreshments will be available. Call 426-4817 for additional information.
