Reflecting On The Four ‘Bee’ Retirees
When Senator Tony Hwang called The Bee’s office a few weeks ago, he was shocked to learn of Ellen Therrien’s retirement. Following this phone call, Co-Publisher Sherri Baggett sent Hwang an email with the details about three other employees who were leaving The Bee Publishing Company. Between the four women, Ellen Therrien, Linda Baur, Anna Kalinowski, and Sandy Morici, they have completed 88 years of service.
On August 29, Hwang sent four proclamations to The Bee, one for each retiree. Unfortunately, he could not join the celebration, but the proclamations were read aloud to the company at a small celebration that afternoon. He thanked each of them for their time and dedication to serving the community of Newtown and wished them all a happy, healthy retirement.
Their work has not gone unnoticed as Therrien worked directly with Hwang for advertising to ensure his campaign messages were perfect. Therrien served 18 years as the advertising sales manager. Baur pored through each aspect of Antiques & The Arts Weekly and The Bee to finish 23 years of service. Baur started as a type setter, but began copyediting and transitioned to some webwork as well. Kalinowski designed pages for both A&A and The Bee. Kalinowski worked as a graphic designer for more than 18 years at the time of her retirement. Morici processed payments for every Bee subscriber as the credit manager. At the time of her retirement, she had been working with The Bee Publishing Company for 31 years.
Their talents and personalities made The Bee a community hub and a wealth of information for many years, and their impacts will be felt for many more years to come.
