Newtown Choral Society To Begin Rehearsals, Invites New Members
Newtown Choral Society (NCS), under the direction of Mary Andreotta and accompanied by Susan Anthony-Klein, will begin rehearsals on Wednesday, September 12, for its winter concert, and is inviting prospective members to attend. There are openings in all voices.
“We do not require an audition and welcome everyone who loves singing and has a desire to learn,” said Ms Andreotta.
Rehearsals are Wednesday evenings in the choral room of Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street. They begin at 7 pm and last approximately two hours.
The 2018 concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 2, at Newtown Meeting House.
“We are pleased to be presenting Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten as our major piece,” said Ms Andreotta.
Along with the Britten piece, the choir will also perform “Musicological Journey,” a journey through the 12 days of Christmas; Ray Charles’s version of “Jingle Bells;” as well as other music of the season.
Now entering its 32nd year, Newtown Choral Society is a community chorus that welcomes singers from all area towns. The choir performs two concerts a year and welcomes both novice and experienced singers. The choir is supported through dues, ticket sales, and program ads.
