Danbury Area Public Transit Users Called To Hearing
BRIDGEPORT â The Connecticut Public Transportation Commission will hold a public hearing September 12 at 7:30 pm in the Bridgeport City Hall Council Chambers, 45 Lyon Street.Â
This will be one of four hearings that the Commission holds statewide this fall to gather testimony from the public, transportation providers, public officials, and other entities concerning the operation of public transportation services including Metro-North New Haven Line train service, Amtrak service, Greater Bridgeport Transit bus services, intercity bus service, dial-a-ride, and ADA transportation and other issues.Â
The commission is seeking public comment on the extent to which existing services are meeting public needs and on improvements or new services to address unmet travel needs. In addition to the topics mentioned above, the commission is also interested in testimony on the ferry service to Port Jefferson, Long Island, experience with the new M-8 rail cars, the role of transit in downtown redevelopment, the proposal for bus service linking Bridgeport and Danbury, the possibility of a new East End train station, and the adequacy of funding to maintain existing services.
The commission will use the testimony received at this and three other public hearings this fall and another hearing held this past spring to prepare recommendations for its annual report to the governor, the transportation commissioner, and the General Assemblyâs Transportation Committee.Â
In addition to the September 12 public hearing in Bridgeport, the commission will also hold public hearings in Storrs on September 27, Winsted on October 10, and Windsor on October 16.Â
Additional information on the public hearings may be obtained from Dennis J. King, ConnDOTâs liaison to the commission, at 860-594-2820.
