Proud To March As A Democrat
Proud To March As A Democrat
To the Editor:
Newtownâs Labor Day Parade was, as usual, a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parade committee for all of their hard work in making this yearâs event such a success.
I was proud to march as part of the Democratic Town Committee, along side my Dad, who is running for Legislative Council in District 2. It was also an honor to march in support of Herb Rosenthal and Joe Bojnowski. They have done wonderful things for our town while in office, and I hope they will get the opportunity to continue their dedication to the town.
You may have noticed the signs on the bus highlighting some of Herb and Joeâs accomplishments. One of the areas they have had so much success in is economic development. The Phase 1 construction of the Hawleyville sewer installation allowed for the building of the Homesteads and Liberty, an assisted living and age-restricted housing area, which generate $1 million in tax revenue. Plans have also been approved for The Woods, which will generate $2 million in annual tax revenue.
Herb and Joe have also worked hard to revitalize Sandy Hook. The sidewalks, street lights, and plaza have attracted new stores and services to the area. They have also worked closely with the owners at Curtis Corporate Park and the office building on High Bridge Road to create more opportunities for economic development.
Several small shopping centers and office buildings have been built on Church Hill Road, South Main Street, and Berkshire Road. Plans are in the works for an office complex off of Exit 9 and another shopping center next to Sand Hill Plaza.
Herb and Joe have worked hard for almost ten years to find opportunities for economic development in Newtown, while at the same time maintaining the feeling of the Newtown I have come to know and love. I think that another term for them in office would be a reassurance that we have two very capable and committed leaders looking to keep Newtown moving forward.
Sincerely,
Sarah Hemingway
