‘CT Collects CT’ At BCC

BROOKFIELD — A novel new exhibition entitled “Connecticut Collects Connecticut” has opened in the Lynn Tendler Bignell Gallery at Brookfield Craft Center. It will remain on view through September 30.

The show features a selection of handmade fine craftwork made by Connecticut artists from the collections of several of the region’s more prominent contemporary arts and crafts collectors. The show has been organized by Brookfield Craft Center Board Member Bernice Wollman of Sherman, who is also a noteworthy collector of the genre of artwork being exhibited.

According to BCC Gallery Director Judith T. Russell: “This unique exhibition showcases an outstanding collection of ‘favored objects,’ along with in-home photos and interview quotes from noteworthy collectors within our region.”

The exhibition presents the great variety of ways in which patrons live with the arts they love. Some are passionate collectors challenged to find enough walls or shelves to display their treasures. Some are participants in the process, commissioning site-specific work and custom furnishings. Some fill their Connecticut homes with a personal mix of local arts and finds from around the world, or bring a bit of Connecticut with them to city apartments or vacation houses.

All have something very interesting to say about how and why they have acquired their collections.

Brookfield Craft Center is at 286 Whisconier Road (Route 25). Call 775-4526 or send e-mail to info@BrookfieldCraftCenter.org for additional information.
