15 â Hunt Hill Farm in New Milford will hold its third annual barbecue on Saturday, September 15, at 4 pm, to benefit the Hunt Hill Farm Trust. 16 â The 2007 4H Nutmeg Benefit Horse Show will be held Sunday, September 16, at the Cooperative Extension System grounds on Stony Hill Road in Bethel. The popular Open Schooling show will feature divisions in English Equitation, Hunt Seat and Trail. Most classes will be pinned through sixth place with the first-place winner also receiving a trophy. Divisions will be awarded champion and reserve ribbons. The high point horse and rider combination from both the Spring Benefit and Fall Nutmeg shows will receive year-end awards in the following divisions: Open Beginner Hunt and Walk/Trot (sponsored by Sunny Brook Farm in Newtown), Low Hunters (sponsored by Clearview Farms of Sandy Hook), the Kentucky Hunter Classic (sponsored by All the Kingâs Horses of Ridgefield) and Western Adult/Jog (sponsored by Happy Trails Farm of Danbury). 23 â The Washington Horse Show will be held Sunday, September 23, at 9 am, at the Steep Rock Preserve in Washington. It is a benefit for one of the oldest land trusts in the state. The event will have classes for all abilities from lead line to the Steep Rock Challenge, which is a cross country jump course through the woods with natural obstacles. Several classes will be held for Litchfield Lâil Britches, a local therapeutic riding program. Classic trophies will be awarded for championships. There will also be a musical dressage demonstration by local dressage expert Pat Perucci as well as a raffle with many prizes donated by friends and local businesses. A catered luncheon will be held for $15 per person and standard horse show food will be available all day from the Bethlehem Lions booth. 30 â The Woodbury Litchfield Foxhounds, Inc., will hold its Fall Hunter Pace on Sunday, September 30, from 9:30 am to 12 noon, at Anderson Farm in Morris. Pre-registration is $50 for adults and $30 for juniors under 18, with lunch included (lunch is $20 for non-riders and guests who have pre-registered). Dressed in traditional formal hunting attire, WLHF follows hounds as they chase an artificial scent over a pre-determined dragline. The pace will take riders through the Litchfield Hills, filled with picturesque meadows, brooks, woodlands and rolling farmland. Fences will include post and rails, logs, stonewalls, coops and gates will be about 30 inches in height (with go-arounds at every fence). Horses must be well groomed and fit. There will be one checkpoint where horse and rider can relax. There will be four divisions â Hunt, Pleasure, Juniors and Western and ribbons in all divisions. A perpetual trophy and replica will be presented to the winning team in the Hunt division in memory of Dr Robert Berger. Teams shall consist of two or three riders and adults riding with juniors will be considered in the adult division. All riders MUST wear ASTM approved riding helmets with safety harness.
