Meserve Memorial Fund Scholarships

At a recent reception at the Stony Hill Inn, 27 scholarships were awarded to area students intending to pursue careers in the environmental fields. Each award was $2,500, bringing the total awarded since the inception of the scholarship program in 1983 to $540,000. There have been 306 awards made to 182 students.

The following Newtown students were awarded: Ryan Ignatius, attending the University of Vermont; Joseph Blanchard, attending the University of New Hampshire; Hilary A. Sepe, attending the University of Connecticut; Eric J. Vollmer, attending Keene State College; and Tristan Blanchard, attending St Mary’s College of Maryland.

The Meserve Memorial Fund was established as a legacy of the late Mr and Mrs Albert W. Meserve to support charitable organizations that benefit the Danbury region. The region served by the Meserve Fund encompasses Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding, Ridgefield, Sherman, and Bridgewater. The Distribution Committee, made up of community representatives, makes decisions on grants. The Fund is administered by the Fairfield County Foundation in Wilton. The next deadline for applications is October 1. For further information call Linda Cummins at 203-834-9393.
