Library To Sponsor Mother-Daughter Book Talks

The Booth Library will host third and fourth-grade girls and their mothers in a special four-part series that explores the stories of four young women whose lives were affected by World War II. Discussion will focus on the courage and strengths of the female characters as they face the challenge of changes in their lives, new homes, and new responsibilities.

Pat Minitar, a 31-year veteran of the New Haven school system and one of the system’s first elementary school librarians, will lead the discussions.

The first discussion, based on the book Meet Molly: An American Girl, will take place on Wednesday, October 11, from 7 to 8 pm in the library’s meeting room. The other books in the series include Love You Soldier by Amy Hest on October 25; Number the Stars by Lois Lowry on November 8; and In The Year of the Boar by Jackie Robinson on November 22.

Multiple copies of all of the books are available in the Booth Library’s children’s department.

This is one of 34 Book Voyagers programs taking place in Connecticut libraries this fall. Sponsored by “Time for Ideas in Libraries,” a program of the Connecticut Humanities Council, and co-sponsored by the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library and Girl Scout Troop 40, the programs are free and open to the public.

Enrollment is limited to 20 pairs of mothers and daughters. For more information about the program call the Booth Library children’s department at 426-3851. For information about other book discussion series offered throughout the state, call the Southern Connecticut Library Council at 203/248-6370.
