The Shamrock Traditional Irish Music Society (STIMS) will host its next Newtown Meeting House concert on Monday, September 15. This month’s guest is The Alt: John Doyle, Nuala Kennedy and Eamon O’Leary.

The performance will begin at 7:30.

Grammy nominee John Doyle is returning to Fairfield County, this time teaming his powerhouse rhythmic guitar style with the brilliant voice and mighty flute of Nuala Kennedy and many talents of bouzouki player, guitarist and singer Eamon O’Leary of The Murphy Beds. The trio will perform their brand of traditional Irish, Scottish, English and American songs.

Mr Doyle and Mr O’Leary, both natives of Dublin, and the Dundalk-born Kennedy are well-known Irish musicians and singers who been contributing for decades to various groups and ensembles, and have participated in many recordings with a variety of musicians.

All three are known as virtuoso musicians and fine singers with huge repertoires of songs and tunes, new and old.

A few years ago the three musicians decided to collaborate for occasional performances, and then finally a recording. Working under the name The Alt, the trio released a self-named album. The collection represents a return to the beautiful old songs that constitute the core of the tradition.

Each member is an instrumentalist and singer of the highest caliber, and together the alchemy is peerless.

Tickets for the Newtown show are $20, and reservations are strongly encouraged. STIMS shows have traditionally sold out for this location.

For tickets and/or additional information, call 203-362-5912 or send email to tmquinn@optonline.net.
