Womenâs Center Seeks Volunteers
DANBURY ââ The Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury is now screening volunteers for the its fall Domestic Violence-Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention training program. Bilingual and male candidates are encouraged to apply.
The 40-hour training will take place from 5:30 to 9 pm on September 29, October 1, 7, 9, 15, 21, 27, 29, November 3, 4, 13, and 18.
This training will qualify the volunteer to do crisis intervention counseling, which is a hotline position that can be done on-site during business hours or, after business hours, from the volunteerâs home. Crisis counseling can include helping a victim at the hospital or police station.
This training also is a prerequisite for specialized positions such as peer counseling, court advocacy, group facilitation, and shelter advocacy.
Day and evening child care positions also are available and require only a five-hour orientation.
During the last fiscal year, 55 volunteers provided 21,786 hours of support to the 17,152 adults and children served in the Greater Danbury area, including 932 from Newtown.
