New England Toxicology Conference
FARMINGTON â Poisons, adverse effects from medications, and environmental contaminants are some of the health issues that will be discussed at the Second Annual New England Regional Toxicology Symposium to be held Friday, September 26, from 8 am to 5 pm, at the Nathan Hale Inn & Conference Center on the University of Connecticut Storrs campus.
The conference brings together experts in the fields of medicine, pediatrics, trauma/emergency medicine, and poison control from throughout New England. Topics will include carbon monoxide and hyperbaric oxygen therapy, managing overdose patients, and the controversies in the use of antidotes, toxicology history â âIraqi Wheat Episode,â and dosage and high toxicity in certain pediatric medications. There will also be a round of âToxicology Jeopardy.â
The conference is geared toward health professionals in related fields. Registration is $35 for undergraduate and graduate students; $60 for emergency medical technicians, firefighters, and other emergency personnel; and $80 for physicians, nurses, pharmacists, PhDs, and others. Fees go up $20 (except for students) after August 26.
The conference is sponsored by the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, Health Resources and Services Administration, US Department of Health and Human Services, and Orphan Medical, Inc, in association with the Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts/Rhode Island poison control centers.
