âBest Of The Seasonâ Will Bring Top Manhattan Selections To Aldrich
RIDGEFIELD â The Aldrich Museum of Contemporary Artâs major fall exhibition will be âBest of the Season: Selected Highlights from the 2000-2001 Manhattan Gallery Season,â a biennial survey exhibition that recognizes the best contemporary art displayed during the current Manhattan exhibition season.
âBest of the Seasonâ is a celebration of contemporary artists, some just emerging onto the art scene, as well as artists who may be at the height of a distinguished career. The result is a demonstration of the extraordinary variety and vigor of art today. The exhibition will be on view September 23 to December 30.
Curated by associate curator Jessica Hough, assistant director Richard Klein, and museum director Harry Philbrick, the 22 artists were selected from hundreds of gallery exhibitions over the past year. Visitors will be invited to walk inside Joyce Kozloffâs ambitious globe sculpture titled âTargetsâ and delight in Christian Marclayâs non-traditional approach to music in âGuitar Drag.â Verne Dawsonâs fantastical landscape paintings will transport viewers to foreign landscapes, while Edward Burtynskyâs exquisite photographs make earthbound landscapes seen exotic.
The exhibition will feature the work of the following artists: Polly Apfelbaum, Paul Brown, Edward Burtynsky, Jonathan Callan, R. Crumb, Verne Dawson, Steve DiBenedetto, Neil Farber, Tim Gardner, Terry Haggerty, Hilary Harkness, Jane Harris, Sabine Hornig, Brad Kahlhamer, Joyce Kozloff, Christian Marclay, Roy McMakin, Michael Rees, Andres Serrano, Charles Spurrier, William Willis and Yun-Fei Ji.
Toronto-based Edward Burtynsky will be the featured speaker in the Aldrich Museumâs program âArt Buzzâ on November 18, which will offer an opportunity to meet the artist and discuss his work in an informal setting.
The Aldrich Museum is at 258 Main Street (Route 35) in Ridgefield. Museum hours are Tuesday through Sunday, noon to 5 pm. The museum can be contacted by calling 203-438-4519, or visit www.AldrichArt.org for additional information.
