Mary N. Connolly

Mary (Naramore) Connolly, 89, a former Newtown resident, died August 26 at the Freedom Village Nursing Center in Bradenton, Fla.

Born in Bridgeport, August 17, 1911, she was the daughter of Clarence B. Naramore and Eva H. (Blackman) Naramore, and lived with her sister, Nancy, and brother, Bud (Clarence, Jr), at the family’s Sunset Tavern in Newtown until she attended Vassar College, graduating in 1932.

She married George K.S. Connolly, from Dundee, N.Y., who was a Cornell University graduate and a chemical engineer employed at Union Carbide in South Charleston, W. Va., until retirement. The family lived in South Charleston and Charleston. Mrs Connolly, mother of three children, was a homemaker and volunteer secretary from 1952 to 1985 for Camp Kno-Koma, a summer camp for diabetic children. She was a member of the Kanawha United Presbyterian Church in Charleston.

Connecticut residents may remember Nancy and Dick (Richard) Rice of Danbury, and Bud and Dorothy Naramore of Westport. The Blackman Farm in Newtown was an intriguing adventure for the three Connolly children and three Rice children during summer reunions.

In 1995 the Connollys moved to Longboat Key, Fla., then to Freedom Village Retirement Center in Bradenton in December of 1997.

Mary N. Connolly is survived by her husband, George K.S. Connolly of Bradenton, Fla.; a daughter, Anne Connolly of Anna Maria, Fla.; and a sister, Nancy N. Rice of Duluth, Minn.
