Lecture Series Concerning Childrenâs Challenges
For Parents & Educators
The Housatonic Valley Waldorf School Association will present a three-part lecture series for parents and educators called âThe Challenges Our Children Face.â The series will take place on Friday, September 22, from 7:30 to 9 pm; Saturday, September 23, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm; and Saturday, October 21, 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, at Dodgingtown Firehouse, on Route 302 in Newtown.
Internationally known author Kim Payne will speak on how parents today can help children develop a strong sense of self-esteem and responsibility.
In his first lecture on September 22, Mr Payne will explore how adults can teach children to live joyfully and creatively in the modern world without caving in under its pressures.
On September 23, Mr Payne will speak on the subject of teasing, bullying, and fighting. Parents will learn why some children become bullies and others seem to always get picked on. Parents will learn practical steps to break behavioral patterns, develop a whole-community approach, and select the right approach for different age groups.
During the final workshop session on October 21, Mr Payne will talk about the problem of addiction and why certain people are attracted to certain drugs. He will show how parents can respond creatively, compassionately, and constructively.
Kim Payne has worked internationally as a counselor, teacher, adult educator, and therapist. He is the author of The Games Children Play and Overcoming Bullying and Teasing: A Waldorf Whole Community Approach.
