Grange Fair Returns
This Weekend In Weston
WESTON â It will be a day of parsnips and pepper jam, guinea hens and geese when Norfield Grange hosts its annual genuine, old-fashioned agricultural fair on Sunday, September 10. The hours are 11 am to 5 pm, rain or shine, on the Grange property at 12 Goodhill Road (near the intersection with Route 57). Admission is free.
Prize ribbons will be awarded to some of the areaâs best gardeners, bakers, canners, needleworkers, crafters, photographers, and artists. Baked and canned goods will go on sale at 11 am, and the fruits, vegetables, and flowers will be auctioned off around 3:30 pm.
The children will want to make a beeline for the games and a petting zoo at the quiet far end of the property, with ducks, geese, chickens, and guinea hens. They will also want to check out the magic fishpond, cupcake icing, and Frank the Clown.
To add to the festivities, Bruce and Sandy Hedman of Taraâs Thistle will sing and play traditional and contemporary music from Scotland and Ireland. Also celebrating will be Randy Brody of Drum-N-Dance, and his African drum circle.
Local bees will be represented by Herb Day, a member of Backyard Beekeepers Association. Jo Bonello will be back at her easel and Rosalie Neill will again be selling her handmade dolls.
There will be other handmade articles for sale as well, and hungry fairgoers can buy popcorn, sausage grinders, hot dogs, hamburgers, soft drinks, and pie. This yearâs raffle features a $200 Home Depot gift certificate, a hand-crocheted afghan, and an enormous basket of food.
