Swinging For The Fences ... Menâs Softball League Teams Compete In Playoffs
The Newtownâs Recreation menâs weeknight softball leagueâs playoffs have been unfolding at Treadwell Park during the last couple of weeks. Newtown Sunoco and Carminuccioâs/ Gaston Law advanced to the championship game which was to have been played on Thursday (after The Bee went to press).
Carminuccioâs/ Gaston Law defeated Gang Green 15-3 in the semifinals. Joey DeVellis had three hits and Tim LaPak had three RBI to lead a balanced attack by Carminuccioâs.
Newtown Sunoco had defeated Carminuccioâs 16-15 in the first round of the double-elimination playoffs. On a walk-off hit by Mike Hess.
Gene Chappell, Dave Amaral, Dave Samoskevich, Shawn Mack and Tim Zeno all had three hits in that win. Carminuccioâs was led by Carl Abrahamson who had two home runs and six runs batted in. DeVellis and PJ Cochrane both homered and drove in three runs in this see-saw game.
