Get The Most Out Of HeritageQuest And Online Ancestry Searches
To start off the Genealogy Club of Newtownâs 2009-10 program season, Toni McKeen will speak on Wednesday, September 9, at 7 pm, at C.H. Booth Library. Ms McKeen will share special tips and tricks for locating long-lost ancestors and relatives using the capabilities of HeritageQuest and Ancestry.com.
Ms McKeen has been involved in genealogy for more than 23 years, and she is an expert at getting the most out of these databases. When not tracing her familyâs ancestors in Italy or her husbandâs ancestors in Ireland, Ms McKeen teaches genealogy classes at Founders Hall in Ridgefield. She has been a popular presenter at genealogy societies all over Connecticut and New York.
At the clubâs second meeting of the season, on October 14, the speaker will be Thomas J. Kemp, who will talk about 21st Century Core Genealogical Resources.
Mr Kemp will demonstrate the core genealogy resources available via the web, online resources that family history researchers can use and rely on for finding family tree information. His presentation will cover Internet sources for searching books, documents and microfilm, newspapers, government reports, and family genealogy records.
Mr Kemp is the director of genealogy products for NewsBank. He has been working on his genealogy for 44 years.
The Genealogy Club of Newtown meets at 7 pm on the second Wednesday evening of each month from September to June at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street. Visitors and new members are always welcome.
