A Critical Time For The Food Bank
A Critical Time For The Food Bank
To the Editor:
In November 2008, The Newtown Bee published an article to bring our attention to the fact that food donations to the food bank significantly drop after the holiday season, making it difficult for the food bank to cope with the need during and after the summer months. The article inspired me to choose this cause to be the beneficiary of my Eagle Scout Project.
Particularly in these tough economic times when more people need help and more donations are needed this cause takes on even more importance. In trying to find solutions, I realized that convenience is one issue that may hamper donations. Therefore we have constructed food drop boxes and placed them around the town. The following are locations of these food drop boxes: (1) Newtown Florist located at 111 South Main Street (2) TR Paul Inc located at 14 Commerce Road, (3) Caraluzziâs located at 5 Queen Street, and (4) also at Social Services Department at 3 Main Street (behind Newtown Police Station). I sincerely thank these businesses for their support for this cause.
Boy Scouts of America, Troop 70 will also be collecting food at Stop & Shop (228 South Main Street) on September 12 and October 10 from 9 am to 2 pm. Through this letter, I request that the residents support this cause and donate some food to the Newtown Food Bank.
Sincerely,
Ajit Singh
