Playoffs

Spartans 25, Toro 12: The Spartans pulled off the upset as Jimmy Tatarzycki and Josef Ford had defensive TDs, and Mike Silvestri added one. Toro TDs were scored by Carl Doty and Gabe Giusti. The Spartans advanced to Turf Bowl II.

Indians 20, Whalers 14: The Indians carried a 7-0 lead into halftime. Whalers quarterback Steve Vichiola threw scoring strikes to Mike Kennedy and Richie Spader for the lead. But the Whalers couldn’t handle Indians quarterback Kevin Whipkey who scrambled and hit Anthony “Big Play” Mason and Mike Buck for two late half TDs to seal a trip to Turf Bowl II.

Turf Bowl II

Indians 27, Spartans 12: Brian Poehl scored a defensive TD to start the game in the Indians’ favor and they never looked back. Kevin Whipkey hit Mike Kennedy for 2 TDs and Anthony Mason for one in the win. Mike Slavestri had two TD receptions in the game.

 

Regular Season

Toro Restaurant 19, Indians 12: Ole Shannon scored two touchdowns and Matt McCawley added one in Toro’s victory. Adam Hayden reached the end zone twice for the Indians.

Indians 39, Spartans 29: Jeff LaFlamme and Adam Hatden combined for all of the Indians’ scoring. Chris Rosado scored a TD and earned his team two points on a safety. Brandon Crowley, Randy Hoe, and Jay Arsenault all got into the end zone.

Newtown Whalers 25, Smart Power 8: Steve Vichiola threw four TDs, two to Mike Kennedy, and one each to Justin Miller and Richie Spader. Ryan Fernandez added a TD and safety for Smart Power.

Spartans 34, Smart Power 23: Randy Hoe and Tyrone Lane combined for five TDs to seal the win. Ryan Fernandez scored twice and Nathan Bernardo once for Smart Power.

Toro Restaurant 33, Whalers 6: Carl Doty, Matt McCawley, and Greg Demenna of Toro Restaurant all scored. Steve Vichiola scored the lone TD for the Whalers.

Whalers 36, Indians 12: Steve Vichiola got everyone involved, throwing bombs to Justin Miller and Bobby Ambrose twice, and PJ Cochran and Steve Vichiola each ran for TDs. Adam Hayden and Tim Lapak scored TDs for the Indians.

Whalers 21, Spartans 20: Newtown Whalers quarterback Steve Vichiola scored a touchdown with 54 seconds left in the game. Vichiola also threw two TDs to PJ Cochrane and Mike Kennedy. Randy Hoe, Greg Peck, and Jay Arsenault all scored for the Spartans. Kevin davies saved the game for the Whalers by making a diving tackle to grab a Spartans flag at the 4 yard line.

Indians 35, Toro 25: Adam Hayden scored three TDs and Dan Kearns and Anthony Mason scored one each to lift the Indians over undefeated Toro Restaurant. Josh Tortora scored twice and Ole Shannon and Carl Doty had TDs for Toro.

Toro 64, Smart Power 14: Josh Torora reached the end zone four times, and Dan McCawley and Gabe Giusti scored twice and added safeties. Josef Ford and Stephen Ferreti scored for Smart Power.

Toro 27, Whalers 8: Sabian Cardona, Matt McCawley, Carl Doty, and Ray Roman all found the end zone for Toro. Bill Brunetti, Jimmy Tani, and Angel Molina — the massive offensive line — gave Toro’s quarterback plenty of time to pick apart the defense. Justin Miller scored the lone TD for the Whalers.

Whalers 43, Smart Power 12: Steve “Crew” Vichiola threw bombs to Justin Miller three times and Mike “Primetime” Kennedy twice. Vichiola also ran one in. John O’Leary scored twice for Smart Power.

Indians 29, Smart Power 0: Rob Lapple scored 2 TDs, and Mike Buck and Adam Hayden had once each in a shutout over Smart Power.

Smart Power 58, Spartans 27: Smart Power earned its first victory of the year. Nathan Bernardo, Josh Nelson, and Josef Ford all scored two TDs, and Ryan Fernandez scored three times. Al Davis, Brandon Cowley, and Chris Rosado all scored for the Spartans.

Toro 29, Indians 12: Toro sealed the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Matt and Dan McCawley combined for all of Toro’s scoring. Adam Hayden was the only Indian to reach the end zone.

Indians 45, Spartans 23: Adam Hayden scored five TDs and Brian Poehl had one in the win. Josef Ford and Ryan Fernandez scored for the Spartans.
