Planning For The Tercentennial Ball
Planning For The Tercentennial Ball
By Jan Howard
Get out your dancing shoes and start looking for that special dress and where to rent a tux or period costume. Plans are proceeding for the first major fundraising event of Newtownâs tercentennial year.
Janet Woycik and Barbara Kasbarian, co-chairmen of the Tercentennial Commission Steering Committeeâs Special Events Committee, met this week to discuss the dinner dance.
âItâs going to be the social event of the century,â Ms Kasbarian said.
The Tercentennial Ball is scheduled for February 5, with a snow date of February 12, at the Fireside Inn from 7 pm to midnight.
Tickets at $100 per person will be available October 1. Black tie and period costumes are optional.
âTables are available for corporate sponsorship,â Ms Woycik said. For a sponsorship, contact John Martocci at Newtown Savings Bank.
The dinner-dance will offer music for dancing by Third Shift, an eight-member band, of Huntington.
âIt will also include live and silent auctions,â Ms Kasbarian said.
Bob Tendler and Richard Coopersmith will be in charge of the auctions. However, Ms Woycik noted, âWe need people to be on the committees.â
To volunteer for the auction committees, contact Ms Woycik at the C.H. Booth Library or Ms Kasbarian at the Parks and Recreation Department.
Donations for both auctions are also needed, they said. Some suggestions include airline tickets, tickets to sporting events and plays, or a week at a summer home, among others.
Ms Woycik said the Fireside Inn will be âbeautifully decoratedâ by Claudia Coopersmith, Linda Pickwick, and Joanne Keane with flowers from Petal Pushers.
