Countering A Violent Society
DANBURY â A series of prevention workshops, developed to promote a safer community, and with a focus on physical, emotional, and sexual violence, will be conducted the third Tuesday of each of the next three months at the Womenâs Center of Greater Danbury. The free program include:
âOut of the Box: Raising Healthy Sons & Daughtersâ on September 21 will explore the prevention of the development of an abusive or vulnerable person and the parenting skills that address these factors.
âIs There A Sex Offender in Your Neighborhood? The Myth of Stranger Dangerâ on October 19 will explore sex offender profiles, identification, and treatment; the dynamics of assault; limitations of community notification and the sex offender registry; and risk reduction and prevention strategies for adults and children.
âTaking a Stand Against Violence: Bystander Interventionâ on November 16 will address how bystanders (neighbors, friends, co-workers) can challenge a culture that supports abusive behavior, such as bullying, battering, and sexism.
These programs are made possible by a grant through the Connecticut Sexual Assault Crisis Services, the Center for Disease Control, and the Connecticut Department of Public Health.
These evening programs will be held in the Womenâs Centerâs second floor Community Room at 2 West Street from 7 to 8:30 pm. Call 731-5200 to register.
