*Book Sale This Weekend: The 29th Annual Friends of Booth Library Labor Day Weekend Book Sale will run Saturday, September 4, until Wednesday, September 8, from 9 am to 5 pm at the Fairfield Hills campus. Choose from a selection of over 150,000 books in over 75 categories.
Admission charge for Sat is $10 from 9 am until noon and $5 from noon until 5 pm. There is no admission charge for the rest of the sale.
On Monday all books will be half-price; Tuesday, all books will be available for $5 per bag; and all remainders will be free on Wednesday.
Refreshments will be available for purchase, so plan to spend a long time browsing and buying.
Book Sale Chairman Joanne Zang and the book sale volunteers think they may be presenting one of the best book sales ever this year (see related story on page A-7).
The sale will be user friendly. Shoppers will be given detailed maps to locate the 76 categories, which includes a new one on royalty. Hardcover and paperback fiction will be featured in one room, alphabetized by author and organized into subcategories, such as classics, mysteries, science fiction, and romance. Nonfiction, located in another room, will include a large selection of alphabetized biographies, plus categories such as art, architecture, math, engineering, computers, history, cooking, gardening, childrenâs books, home improvement, and travel, among others.
There is also a collectibles room, a special feature for dealers and bibliophiles, where hundreds of collectible books are offered for sale. Some of these books are desirable for qualities other than content, such as age and condition, pictures and illustrations, limited printing, or an especially good dust jacket.
*Library Is Changing Its Circulation System: C.H. Booth Library is in the process of switching to new circulation software, and we remain closed until Wednesday, September 8.
Effective immediately: Bring your library card to have it updated to the new system, or you will not be able to check out materials. Also please note that no holds or renewals can take place until we re-open on Wednesday.
Young Adults
*New YA Program: âA Mysterious Afternoon at the Libraryâ will be presented Saturday and Sunday, September 18-19, at 3 pm each day. Readers in grades six and up and join the YA Mystery Players at the Bucksâ dinner party, where everything is going along smashingly well until a sudden emergency.

*Book Discussion: Letâs talk about Hoot by Carl Hiaasen on Wednesday, September 22, from 4 to 5 pm, in the Story Room. This is also a program for readers in grades 6 and up.
Roy, the new kid in his small Florida community, avoids the school bully and helps another boy attempt to save a colony of burrowing owls from a proposed construction site. Mystery and shenanigans in one great book!

Adult Programs
*Book Groups in September: If youâre looking for a good read and some great discussion why not drop in on a book discussion group at the library this fall. Groups are always welcoming new members. Call the library if you have any questions.
The nonfiction group will meet on Tuesday, September 7, at 1 pm, to discuss Truman by David McCullough.
The daytime group will be talking about The Go-Between by L.P. Hartley on Monday, September 13, at 1 pm.
Also, the evening group will meet to talk about Salmon Rushdieâs Midnightâs Children on Thursday, September 16.
*Computer Classes: A hands-on introduction to computers designed for the true beginner will be offered on Saturday, September 11, from 9 am until noon. The class is free but you must pre-register if you would like to attend.
An intermediate class which covers more advanced Web issues including downloading files and saving pictures, as well as topics relating to email, will take place on Sat, September 25, from 9 am to noon. This class has a fee of $10 and pre-registration is also required.
*The Intrepid Travelers, Wild China: On Wednesday, September 29, at 7:30 pm, Dr Clark, world traveler and photographer will be returning to the library to give a talk and slide show on Wild China. The Clarks recently visited the remote mountains of Guizhou Province, home to a great variety of ethnic minority people who dress and live as in past centuries. Refreshments will be served.
*Winning Teens: Author and motivational speaker Rob Garofalo will give a talk on his book, A Winner by Any Standard: A Personal Growth Journey for Every American Teen, on Thursday, September 30, at 7 pm. Here is a program which focuses on the very positive side of being a teen in the 21st Century, with helpful advice and inspired insights for parents of teens. Refreshments will be served. Please call the library to reserve a place.
C.H. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, can be reached at 426-4533. Summer hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am to 8 pm, Tuesday and Saturday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Friday from noon to 5 pm. The library is closed on Sunday during the summer.
