NAMI Hosting Family-To-Family Education Program
FAIRFIELD â Registration is open for the upcoming NAMI Fairfield Family-to-Family Education Program, specifically for family members of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness. This free 12-week course will begin on Monday, September 12, and will be held on Mondays from 7 to 9:30 pm in the Eliot Room Library, First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road.
The course will cover information about schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and other serious mental illnesses.
It will teach coping skills such as handling crisis and relapse, listening and communication skills, and self-care for caregivers around worry and stress. It also provides basic information about medications as well as recovery and rehabilitation.
The course will be run by family members who have experience living with a loved one with mental illness. Class size is limited so preregistration is important, says NAMI. For more information or to register call Rebecca at 203-259-9779.
