Work By Three Women At WAA
Work By Three Women At WAA
WASHINGTON DEPOT â Washington Art Associationâs September exhibition offers work by three artists who work their identity into their selected mediums. âThree Abstract Artistsâ will open with an artistsâ reception on Saturday, September 3, from 3 to 5 pm.
Sandra Lernerâs âMystic Realmsâ paintings are magical and meditative in serene colors. With clear spiritual import, the paintings reflect Ms Lernerâs Japanese influences of closed planes, sacred architecture, subtle luminosity and intense energy.
Carol Diamond considers the plane of a painting as a metaphor for consciousness.
For her, raising the plane of the painting symbolizes bringing consciousness forward. Pieces of tile and broken glass collected along the streets and elsewhere, from a smashed windscreen or a porcelain pitcher, are taken out of context and are morphed into sparkling gems, roman glass, church mosaics and medieval artifacts.
Juliann Cydyloâs work references the history and cultural experience of women as reflected in the restrictions of costume, gesture and outer appearance.
By incorporating layers of transparent and opaque paper, antique ledgers, old manuscript pages and linen cloths, she enhances the concept of repetitive, meditative and disciplined activity; activities that women have used to enrich and transcend their lives.
The exhibition runs through September 25 at the Washington Art Association, on Route 47 in 4 Bryan Plaza. For information, call 860-868-2878 or visit www.WashingtonArt.org.
