BROOKFIELD â This year Brookfield Craft Centerâs (BCC) Annual Open House will offer the public âan even wider view of whatâs going on in the American fine craft movement,â says BCC Executive Director John I. Russell.
On Sunday, September 4, from 1 to 4 pm, the center will open all six of its buildings for the public to explore. More than twenty local artists associated with BCC will be demonstrating their craft inside their buildings and on the grounds throughout the afternoon.
Visitors will have an opportunity to talk with the centerâs staff and faculty and watch demonstrations in many of the creative processes and disciplines that are taught at BCC including blacksmithing, tapestry weaving, freeform crochet, lamp work, the art of bonsai, woodturning, paper and book arts, pottery on the wheel, wood turning, spinning fibers, watercolor painting and basketmaking, plus others.
Among the 20 artists planning to participate on September 4 is Sandy Hook resident and jeweler Susan Keane.
The artists and demonstr ations at the popular, free event provide a âmini education in fine contemporary craftsmanshipâ according Kristin Muller, the education director at BCC
The centerâs Annual Student/Faculty Pottery Sale will also be held that day and will feature a large assortment of ceramic tableware items for sale including cups, mugs, plates, vases and bowls all made by students and faculty of BCC.
Brookfield Craft Center is dedicated to preserving the skills and values of fine American craftsmanship and good design. It recently celebrated its 50th year of public service.
