A Successful Summer Of Reading
A Successful Summer Of Reading
To the Editor:
The âTweens & Teens Summer Reading Program at the C.H. Booth Library was a big success this year. Following the kickoff party with pizza and the Video Special Effects Show, a record 51 readers entering sixth grade and up took part. In all they read 243 different books for a total of 89,772 pages. The most popular title was Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince by J.K. Rowling, which 31 people read.
Each week we held a drawing to award prizes from the very generous greater Newtown business community. This year we received gift certificates and merchandise from 26 donors, an added incentive for the young people to take time for summer reading. I would like to recognize and thank the following:
Andreaâs Pastry Shop, Bagel Delight, Big Y, Botsford Drive-In, Cave Comics , CVS, Doughnut Hut, Drug Center, Dunkinâ Donuts, Edmond Town Hall Theatre, Fireside Inn, Fun Kuts, Genesis Hair Studio, Loews Theatre, Mona Lisa Restaurant, Monroe Nails, My Place Restaurant, Newtown Nail & Spa, Photoland, Pizza Palace, Radio Shack, Ricciâs Salon, Robert Anthonyâs Hair Salon, Sandy Hook Barber Shop, Simply Nail & Spa, and West Redding Hair Stylist.
Thank you to all of them, and to our readers and their parents. We couldnât have done it without you!
Sincerely,
Margaret Brown
