John Charles Taylor, fondly known as “Chuck,” passed away peacefully on August 28, at Regional Hospice in Danbury, Conn., while surrounded by his loving family. Chuck was born on August 29, 1956, in Cleveland, Ohio. At three years of age, Chuck was lovingly adopted by the late Francis Roeder Taylor and Phyllis Ann Starr Taylor. Husband of Laura Karpowich Taylor for 34 years.

He was a proud United States Navy Veteran, having served on the USS Paul. Following six years active duty, Chuck earned his associates degree from Norwalk State Technical Collage and persevered to receive his bachelor’s degree from Bridgeport Engineering Institute. Chuck was a skilled electrical engineer for over 32 years, most recently being a valued member of Siemens Medical Solutions prior to his retirement.

Chuck cherished supporting his children’s passions, and often went out of his way to become involved in their activities. His son and daughter were both members of the Scouts, where Chuck would volunteer to pull the Scout trailer to their events, help with Girl Scout cookie pick-up day, and even took a turn at camping. He also proudly supported the Newtown High School Marching Band and Guard, where he had been the Grasso Festival Lead in recent years. Chuck was recently appointed the honor of Post Commander for the American Legion Post 202 of Newtown. Chuck and his wife, Laura, loved taking long trips on their Gold Wing motorcycle with friends from the GWRRA. In his additional free time, he enjoyed reconnecting on Facebook with his naval buddies from his service, enjoying time with his colleagues from Siemens, spending time with his family and friends, and just hanging out with his little buddy, the family dog, Starr.

In addition to his beloved wife, Laura, he is survived by their two children, son Benjamin Francis Taylor and daughter Meredith Joan Taylor; his paternal aunt, Dorothy Gerard, and her five children, Madeline Cowan (husband Paul), George Gerard (wife Marsha), John Gerard, Mary Harrington, and Barbara Newman (husband Larry), their families, and other cousins with whom he loved to connect with and hear from at the holidays; his mother-in-law, Joan Karpowich; sister-in-law Daria Verelley (husband David); sister-in-law Dana Karpowich (husband Ray Mainville); brother-in-law John Karpowich (wife Michele); brother-in-law Matthew Karpowich (wife Linda); nieces and nephews Maddie Mainville, Jessica Mainville, Zachary Karpowich, Allison Karpowich, Emma Karpowich and Mia Karpowich; as well as additional family and dear friends.
